Natural Hair Care Tips

November 6th, 2009

Here are some hair care tips that you can use to improve the health and look of your hair.

While choosing your styling products, make sure that the main component is not alcohol. Presence of too much of alcohol tends to make your hair dry.

Avoid putting your hair styling products directly on your scalp. Doing so will clog the pores on your head.

Before entering a pool, wet your hair so your hair will soak up the initial water instead of the chlorinated water in the swimming pool. When swimming, remember to wear a cap to protect your hair from chlorinated water. In case you are not wearing a cap make sure that you shampoo and condition your hair properly after your swimming is over.

Hot air can be damaging to your hair. So avoid or minimize the use of hair dryers and hot curlers as much as possible. If you are at all using a hair dryer make sure you use the cool mode of the hair dryer.

Avoid using the blow dryer at one spot for more than a few seconds. Instead, keep it moving and most importantly you keep it at a good distance away from your hair.

To speed up the drying process, blot your hair dry with a towel instead of rubbing it to dry it. Leave the remaining moisture in your hair and let it dry naturally rather than drying it with a blow dryer.

If you notice a difficult knot in your hair, use your fingers to detangle it instead of combing it, which can result in breakage of hair.

Hair tends to be most fragile when it is wet. Avoid brushing or combing when it’s wet, as doing so can cause breakage of hair. Wait until your hair is almost dry before you attempt brushing it.

Use wide toothed and smooth tipped brushes or combs. Sharp and smaller toothed combs can cause damage to your hair.

Keep your brushes and combs clean by washing them every week using soap or shampoo.

Make sure you comb your hair with wide toothed comb or use your fingers to remove any tangles before you start brushing it.

Begin by combing your hair gently at the ends to get any tangles out and work your way up to the root of your hair.

Remember to always brush or comb your hair with a down ward stroke.

Avoid using plastic brushes or combs, which create static electricity, thus resulting in causing damage to your hair.

A healthy lifestyle will mean healthier body and mind including healthy hair for you too. Diet and Hair loss are closely associated, and hence you must pay attention to your diet for a healthy hair. Excessive stress, smoking, not exercising and scarcity of nutrition are can prevent your hair from remaining healthy. Get the required amount of sleep.

Learn your hair type, whether it is dry or oily and purchase shampoos & conditioners that are best suited for your hair type. Trial and error and extensive research is the best way to find out which particular hair product is ideal for your hair.

Shower with warm or cool water. Hot water can dry and irritate your scalp, resulting in irritation at times even.

The Secret of Good Hair Care

November 6th, 2009

The secret to a good hair care is to know what your hair wants and needs, like know your hair texture (dry, normal or oily). Another thing to keep in mind is about the right kind of products suited to your hair. There are loads of products calling for your attention; but choose the one that suits you the best.

In today’s world, one hardly has time to go to a beauty parlor and sit there for hours to get soft, shiny, smooth hair. By following simple rules, you too can have great hair right at your home.

These rules are:

Avoid over-washing your hair. Short hair is easier to wash daily but not long hair. Over washing will dry the hair and make them brittle.

Don’t apply shampoo directly to the roots. Start from the nape and then work it through the rest of your hair.

Distribute conditioner evenly through your hair. Use a comb to spread the conditioner evenly through your hair.

Avoid twisting of wet hair. It may be convenient, but try to avoid wrapping your hair in a towel and leaving it twisted up on your head for long. It can damage your hair.

Avoid using hair dryer everyday. Allow your hair to dry naturally whenever possible.

Deep conditioning treatment: Once a week give your hair a deep conditioning treatment. For this home deep conditioning treatment all you need is an egg and 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Wet hair and gently massage beaten egg through it. Leave on for 3 minutes then wash off with warm water. Massage in mayonnaise and wrap a hot towel around your head for 30 minutes. Shampoo off with warm water. You won’t need a conditioner and will be a proud owner of shiny, soft, conditioned hair.

Another weekly conditioning hair pack can be made using henna and egg. Mix henna with egg and leave it over night in an iron vessel. Apply this paste in the morning on clean hair and leave it for half an hour for natural conditioning before washing with your usual shampoo.

Do not comb your hair when wet. This may cause to hair breakage as it become very weak during this time.

A good hair massage before washing your hair can do wonders. Massage in warm olive oil or coconut oil and leave for 30-40 minutes before washing. Regular massage with castor oil as a hair oil helps the luxuriant growth of the hair.

Do not wash your hair with very hot water. Always use lukewarm water.

Regular use of coconut milk on your scalp would make your hair silky and also improves hair growth.

These are some tips to get healthy and beautiful hair. Remember to follow your routine regularly to get good results. If changing your product, stick to the new one for a month or two to see the results. Natural products are harmless and cheaper too.

Some of the basic rules to a healthy hair are to nourish it and condition it properly using rich, natural ingredients right from your kitchen. These products are easily available and chemical free. They produce awesome results when followed regularly. Visit: http://www.naturalhairgrowth.net. Please add your inputs on Natural Hair Growth Blog.

Hair Care Routine Tips

November 5th, 2009

Hair is a covering for the body (or parts of it) consisting of a dense growth of threadlike structures (as on the human head); It helps to prevent heat loss. Hair is a filamentous outgrowth of dead cells from the skin, found only on mammals. Although many other life forms, especially insects, show filamentous outgrowths, these are not considered “hair” regarding the accepted meaning of the term. Hair is an outgrowth of protein, found only on mammals. It projects from the epidermis, though it grows from hair follicles deep in the dermis. Although many other organisms, especially insects, show filamentous outgrowths, these are not considered “hair”. Humans, like all primates, are part of a trend toward sparser hair in larger animals; the density of human hair follicles on the skin is actually about what one would expect for an animal of equivalent size. Below are some of the hair care options:

Apply warm coconut oil to the scalp for some time. Then apply lemon juice. Mix one teaspoon methi seed powder, with the mehandi (henna) paste and apply on the scalp. After an hour, rinse well to remove oily residues and wash the hair.

Soak one tablespoon of fenugreek seeds overnight in water. Grind them into a paste. Apply the paste on the hair for an hour and wash it off using a mild shampoo like Johnson’s baby or green apple shampoo from Biotique.

Massage head with coconut oil or olive oil before going to bed. Leave on head overnight. Wash off the oil in the morning. For very dry hair, oil massage should be done twice a week, otherwise it can be done once a week. A hot oil massage may be more effective.

Do not wash your hair with soap and shampoo often, as this will make the hair dry and brittle. Also brush hair only with a comb with big teeth. Do not brush your hair too often.

After washing your hair, let it dry naturally. Avoid using hair dryers, hair curlers and hair straighteners on your hair. These products use heat and damage the hair when used repeatedly. Hair dyes and colors also cause dry hair.

You can use egg, but i wouldnt advise it, if the water to rinse is warm, it cooks (i did this as a teenager, it took hours to get it out) and if you use cold water to rise it hurts your brain!!!

You can mash an avacado to use as a conditioner, but my favorite is to use beer (not lager, proper beer) diluted, to rinse. Don’t worry, the smell dissapears as it dries.

Natural oils and fats, such as in mayonnaise, olive oil, etc., can have great benefits, but be warned: their molecular size is such that they can penetrate the scalp and cause clogged pores.

Using mayonaise as a conditioner is an old trick that goes way back. It’s just vegetable oil and eggs, so it will make your hair glossy.

Mix 1 egg, and one part mayo to one part olive oil and work through hair starting at the roots. Let sit any where from 15 to 30 minutes. Then rinse.

Shampoo and conditioner every other day at the most. Give your hair time to “rest” once in a while. Sometimes I leave conditioner in all night and rinse during my morning shower.

Always sleep with your hairs in braids. Since it is so curly, the more I can do to keep tangles at bay, the better.

Prevent Baldness by Applying the Hair-care Products

November 5th, 2009

The worst in the hair care issue and one of the most common problems faced by people these days is baldness. In many countries, which have periodical extreme weather conditions, the issue of baldness is more pronounced. In some countries, baldness has assumed the proportion of epidemics. According to scientific studies conducted on various groups, baldness can be a problem because of multiple reasons. It could be poor hair care, extreme use of hair care products and cosmetics laced with chemicals and harmful ingredients, fungal infections and lack of nourishment.

Extreme weather conditions also promote baldness in the Tundra region. People wearing helmets for longer period in hot climate conditions are also known to lose their hair over a period of time. However, this cannot be tackled with just one or two products. In the retail market, there are plenty of brands, which promise to heal hair falling problem and baldness. But since the products are not standardized, there is the possibility of the ingredients not working on every individual. Most of the branded products available in the retail market contain chemical compositions that may not help all individuals at all time.

The physical composition of the human body varies from person to person. Therefore, it is imperative that the product be personalized to each person. Since personalization of the products for each person is a difficult task, common components that may help curb balding are formulated. But these products, which contain chemicals, are often known to produce side effects. For instance, hair conditioners are known to cause baldness apart from generating dandruff and flakes. One problem will lead to another problem.

It is suggested that before applying the product to the hair, it is tested by an individual. Some products even cause hair splitting and hair loss. Eventually, it may lead to baldness of the individual. Check with your personal physician before trying any new hair care product. Look for the ingredients of the product to ascertain whether you are allergic to them. Often, it has been found that products produce side effects. Some conditioners and shampoos are known to produce itching effect on the head. Others simply contribute to hair fall.

Evaluating a good brand before putting it to use should become a standard norm. Similarly, check with friends and colleagues on the brand and its reliability. Also, ascertain whether claims made by the brand turned to be true. At the same time, there is nothing wrong in trying a brand that has been recently introduced in the market, for a brief time. It is always better if people opt for products that contain natural ingredients and herbal compositions for good hair growth.

New products are being introduced in the market to tackle baldness. Hair care is a multi billion dollars industry with new products being introduced in the market very frequently. Choosing the right hair care product could be a tricky situation since the compositions do not match everybody’s requirements. For more info, please visit http://www.promotehairgrowth.net

Hair Care Secrets

One thing above all stood out in my mind in my visit with Lieutenant Colonel Nelson R. Moon some years ago at his home in Riverside, California, in company with a lady friend of mine. He told us that “if you want information about good hair care, don’t look to any hairdresser for that; instead, look to Native American wisdom of the past to find useful things for the present.” From a cultural perspective, I could see just how true that was. White men who visited Native American tribes throughout the U.S. and Canada in the last couple of centuries had always remarked on just how fond these people, especially the men, were of their hair. In fact, they usually considered their hair to be the most important part of their bodies, and would naturally lavish a lot of attention and care on it.

In 1970 T met an Indian couple named Adolph and Carol Hungry Wolf. At that time they resided near Glacier National Park in the top part of Montana. I never really learned their particular tribal affiliation, but have reason to believe it was either Blackfoot or Crow. They provided me with some interesting information on personal hair care that might prove helpful to some readers of this book. It is passed along in that spirit.

“Combs were not known in the Old Days, but the hair was often brushed,” Adolph told me. “A primitive brush consisted of a handful of flexible twigs, bound together with buckskin. The most common brush among our people then was made by inserting a stick of wood into a porcupine’s tail. Our ancestors also cut off a handful of horse hair from the tail end, wound it tight and then doubled it over to make a soft hair brush. We still like to brush our hair with this.”

His wife Carol, who had remained silent in the background for awhile, then spoke up with these comments. “Both my mother and grandmother would make hair tonics and washes from the different grasses that grew in abundance on the plains or in the meadows around us. Sweet grass and common bear grass were the two most often used. They would be boiled in water, cooled downs and then rubbed into the hair every day. Such grasses leave the hair smelling sweet, almost like clover. In fact, red or white clover tops may also be used for this. They would sometimes mix in cedar leaves for better aroma and medicinal effect. I’ve discovered in using it in my family, that it has kept our hair from falling out.”

Along more disgusting lines, they talked about the use of bear grease, buffalo dung, and deer urine for the hair, that many braves in “the Old Times” were in the habit of using in their hair. “But now we are educated and know better,” Adolph said. We know that such things are not socially acceptable by the Whites. So we rely on plants instead.”

One thing which Mr. Hungry Wolf emphasized, that is worth repeating here, is “to always brush or comb your hair every day,” because that seems to “keep the hair from getting old and gray and falling out.” I think what he meant to say was that as long as your scalp get plenty of exercise every day and blood circulation to it, your chances of going gray or bald will be drastically reduced.

Aromatherapy Uses- Skin and Hair Care

November 4th, 2009

More and more of today’s skin and hair care products are made using essential oils and the people using these types of products are benefiting in several ways. Not only are they giving themselves top-notch skin and hair care, they’re also reaping the benefits of aromatherapy.

When it comes to using the essential oils that are such a big part of aromatherapy, it’s important to understand a bit about your skin and hair type. Each plant’s essential oils provide a number of different therapeutic benefits so knowing about your skin and hair will help you match up your needs with the appropriate ingredients.

Moisturizing your skin is as easy as adding suitable carrier oil into an essential oil that’s appropriate for your skin type and then massaging the combined treatment into your skin.

Aromatherapy skin and hair care products can cause problems for people who have sensitive skin or allergies. If you have a bad reaction to a product, whether it’s store-bought or homemade, discontinue use. If you’re unsure how you will react to an essential oil, test it on a small area first for a few days and see what happens.

If the problem you’re trying to alleviate isn’t going away, the products may not be working. If necessary, consult with a specialist for advice on how to proceed.

Which aromatherapy ingredients to use for skin/hair care and how?

For normal skin, try using rose, lavender or chamomile essential oils. Chamomile also works well on dry or sensitive skin and skin that is prone to acne or eczema. To use any of these oils, add several drops into your favorite fragrance-free face mask and use as directed. Or add right into your bath water.

Tee tree and cajeput oils also can help with acne. A good carrier oil to mix with these essential oils is grapeseed. You can also mix several drops with rose water to create a toner.

Sandalwood oil is effective at reducing some visible signs of aging such as wrinkles and dry skin. Rose oils, frankincense, neroli and geranium oils are also effective in treating mature skin.

Palmarosa oils are commonly used in both skin and hair care products. These oils have moisturizing and hydrating qualities and they stimulate cell regeneration.

Used neat or combined with carrier oil, the essential oils mentioned above can be massaged into skin or added to bath water. Besides mixing essential oils into carrier oils, you can also mix them into creams and lotions containing lanolin as long as these products don’t contain a fragrance. Then just gently massage into skin.

When excess exposure to the sun is a problem, massage affected areas with lavender or chamomile oils blended with carrier oil.

A good final rinse for hair is a mixture of apple cider vinegar, lemon essential oil and water. In a container, mix 4 teaspoons water, 2 teaspoons vinegar and 3 drops lemon oil. Massage into hair and rinse well.

One-half cup dry rosemary leaves mixed with 1/2 cup olive oil makes a good hot oil treatment for hair. Mix ingredients in a pan and heat. Strain. Coat hair with mixture then wrap in plastic for 20 minutes. Wash thoroughly.

Hair Care Treatment

November 4th, 2009

Many women love to style their hair. If you check out in your neighborhood, most of these women probably have experience in styling their hair on their own. When they leave their houses, they look pretty and attractive. Their hairstyles can also compliment very well what they wear. What is amazing in here is that it was made possible even without going to the parlor. In addition, the busiest woman in town can still have some time to fix their own hair because whatever these girls are using can straighten or curl hair in just a few seconds.

Thanks to various styling devices, women have all the power to achieve great hairstyles like that of what they see in the magazines. Styling hair has been made possible with the application of heat at a regulated level. Thus, it can stay there for hours just as long as the hair does not get wet. Some of the famous tools that you can encounter in the market are flat irons. They are portable so you can bring them anywhere you want.

The only downside of these products is that hair can be damaged with excessive heat application. This is even potentiated by the harmful rays of the sun. At this point in time, the use of devices may not seem very attractive to you. However, thanks to hair care treatment you can always regain the beauty of your hair.

There are certain heat protectant sprays that you can apply while using these devices. They function by providing barriers to prevent further penetration of the extreme heat to the core of the hair that can lead to permanent damage. They also act as moisturizers since it is expected that water in your hair will evaporate with this process. They can also prevent frizzy hair.

Most of these sprays contain chemicals. They are added to water and can be sprayed on the hair before heat is applied. However, you can actually avoid the use of chemicals and resort to a more natural way of protecting your hair. This is through the use of Argan Oil and Hemp Seed Oil.

Argan oil is derived from a plant that can only be found in Morocco. It is very rare that is why it can become limited in the market. However, they possess compositions of Vitamin E and other essential fatty acids. They have great moisturizing capabilities and anti-oxidizing properties that make it perfect for rejuvenating hair dryness.

Hemp Seed Oil comes from a plant called hemp. Just like Argan, it is also known for its moisturizing abilities. It is also rich in nutrients. If it is one of the sources of nutrients for the body, it can also be the best tool in fighting heat damaged that can be caused by your flat iron. It actually makes your hair stronger. It contains essential fatty acids that cannot be produced by your body. They are good for the skin and hair because it promotes regeneration of cells. This is also one natural remedy used for hair care treatment.

10 Great Hair Care Tips

November 4th, 2009

If you watch the tabloids, you know that even the stars have bad hair days. It just seems that when the professional stylists are out of the picture, it is inherently human to have a less than glamorous mane. But you can do your part to stay ahead of the battle by following these great tips for hair care.

1. Use a professional conditioner that is formulated for your specific hair type. While you can skimp a little on the shampoo, a good, professional conditioner is a must have. Look for products in salons that are customized for your hair type. For instance: If you have color or a perm, choose a conditioner that is for chemically processed hair. And stay away from those all-in-one shampoo and conditioner combos.

2. Choose a cut tailored to your face and body shape. The number one mistake that people make when choosing a new hairstyle is to pick a style based on popularity rather than how it will enhance their features. Always choose a new cut based on how it will enhance or detract from your facial features and build. If you have broad shoulders, choose a full-bodied cut over a close cropped head hugging doo.

3. Don’t forget your UV protectants. Just as your skin gets damaged by wind and sun, so does your hair. To combat this, look for finishing products such as mousses, gels and sprays that block UV rays.

4. Keep your appointments. Did you know that your hair will split faster than it will grow? You need to get a trim every 6 to 8 weeks, even if it’s just a micro trim. A good hairdresser makes them good because they know what to leave on the head, not take off.

5. Leave chemicals to the professionals. There is a reason why beauticians need to go to school to learn how to handle chemicals and hair processes. You can do irreparable damage with these products even if the package says that it’s way easy. And even if you don’t make your hair fall out, you could end up looking like a clown and paying a stylist big bucks to fix your mess. (Note: Most stylists charge double the rate for corrective color than they do for normal color processes)

6. Get color for interest and body. Every cut needs a little bit of color to make it truly breathtaking. No matter whether your taste is subtle or dramatic, you can add interest and volume to your tresses with a color process. Highlights, lowlights, all over color, gray coverage, you name it, it’s all good for your look.

7. Do weekly conditioning treatments. Even if your hair is extremely healthy, it is constantly on the attack from wind, sun, cold and heat. During the summer months, your hair is battered even more when it absorbs chlorine and other chemicals from your pool.

8. Get an ionic ceramic flat iron. Instead of frying your hair with a conventional metal plated flat iron. Straighten your tresses, add shine and infuse moisture with one of the a negative ionic flat irons. We personally use T3 irons for all our work.

9. Choose your styling products wisely. Avoid products that leave build-up on your hair. If you see white gunk, that means that your product is not water-soluble and may be coating your hair shaft. Build-up causes limpness, breakage and inability to curl not to mention the white flakes.

10. Did you know that if you use a towel after your shower to dry your hair you are causing split ends and adding static electricity to your hair. Don’t rub the towel back and forth over your hair, scrunch the towel around your hair like your would scrunch crackers in your soup.

While all of these tips won’t make you look like you’ve hired a personal hairdresser, they will help you look the very best that you can each and every day. When it comes to hair care, remember that you wear your hair everyday. Now isn’t it worth the time, effort and money that it takes to keep it looking spectacular?

Fight Dandruff With Effective Hair Care Products

November 3rd, 2009

Dandruff is a universal problem affecting all categories of communities across the world. There is no proper explanation as to why dandruff is generated by the hair. There are plenty of factors that are attributed towards the formation of dandruff and flakes in the hair. They include fungal growth on the head, poor hair care, long term exposure to extreme weather conditions and the role of pollutants. It has been often noticed that people who wear helmets report loss of hair or formation of dandruff and flakes. This is primarily because the hair and particularly the follicle is under stress and the heat generated in the process causes hair loss and baldness.

All over the world, plenty of medication has been prescribed to overcome the problem of dandruff and the flakes formation. However, no single medication will help the dandruff to clear. A combination of medication will help certainly help reduce the generation of dandruff and flakes. One of the natural medications that can help reduce the dandruff is applying organic oils. For instance, castor oil, coconut oil and oils extracted from flowers are found to be effective in fighting dandruff and flakes. These oils contain natural ingredients and have components prepared by nature that helps contain the dandruff problem. However, these products are yet to be standardized for components and ingredients. The testing is still on for various levels. However, most of the users of the natural oils are reporting reduction in the formation of dandruff and flakes.

The flakes and dandruffs in the hair can be prevented by applying oil three or four times in a week to the hair. The oils have to be applied gently and lightly without affecting the texture of the hair. The oils should be allowed to settle on the skull for at least three hours. It is better to apply oil to the non-office hours as some of the oils are slightly sticky. Once the oil is allowed to settle down for multiple hours, it should be washed using hair care products. The oils cannot be removed from the hair easily. Therefore, rinse the carefully in warm water for a small period of time.

Oily hair has the tendency to settle down in a particular format. A number of natural ingredients are also used to promote natural growth of hair and nurture the hair over a long period of time. They include plant extracts that are rich in vitamins that help promote hair growth. But these natural ingredients are costly when compared to the other products of MNC brands. The products are carefully prepared and stored to provide the maximum relief as a consequence of which they are costly when compared to shampoos and hair care products containing chemical compositions.

Fighting dandruff requires a lot of care. The hair care industry is today worth billions of dollars. There are varieties of products being promoted in the market to fight dandruffs and flakes by international advertising companies. It is recommended that the natural medicines and ingredients are used to fight problems like dandruff and flakes to overcome the issue once and for all.
